Floods, Hurricanes, Mass Shootings, Gun Control, Wars, Gay Marriage Ruling, ISIS, Abortion Holocaust . . . Where Does It End???!

Fact is, it won’t. For those of us who are believers in the WORD of God, we know that all these things happening around us will continue. We can’t stop the devastation, or the madness, or the heartache.

But what do we do about it?

Good. Question.

As we contemplate all the recent local and world news coming across our radar via TV, Radio, Internet, Newspaper, Facebook – doesn’t matter what source we get it from – it can easily become an overwhelming barrage that consumes us and brings about feelings of fear . . . despair . . . rage . . . depression . . .

Where do we get our information?

How do we make informed decisions?

Who can we trust?

These are all good questions in light of the tremendous amount of information coming at us every day! To be sure, some sources are better than others, and many don’t deserve even a passing thought from folks who truly want to know the truth.

LET’S BOIL IT DOWN – For me, one thing is clear. Because Christ lives in my heart, my closely held “opinion” is this: God’s Word never changes. It is always TRUE. It is God’s love letter to His children, and we MUST use it as . . .

Our ruler of comparison

1 Corinthians 2:13 Which things also we speak, not in the words which man’s wisdom teacheth, but which the Holy Ghost teacheth; comparing spiritual things with spiritual.

Our compass of direction

Proverbs 3:6 In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths.

Our lamp in the darkness!

Psalm 119:105 Thy word is a lamp unto my feet, and a light unto my path.

Sure, we must get the news somewhere. We all have our own choices as to what is best for us. But what we do with it and how we allow all that news to affect our lives is a much more important choice we must also make. I’m not here to name any names or spell out what I think are good news sources or bad news sources. I’m just burdened to remind all of us that no matter where it comes from, as His children, we are called to filter it through His WORD.

II Timothy 3:16-17 All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness: That the man of God may be perfect, thoroughly furnished unto all good works.

And that filter needs to be the Holy Spirit guiding us in the WORD and providing the wisdom and understanding that we need.

  • Pray that the Holy Spirit guides us as we study and use the Scriptures in our daily lives!

  • Make sure that we are daily filling our thoughts with the WORD!

  • Compare what the Scriptures say in all things!

  • Use the Scriptures to help make informed decisions!

  • Be careful how we respond to news!

II Timothy 2:15-16 Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth. But shun profane and vain babblings: for they will increase unto more ungodliness.

Finally, we need to make sure we are coming to the Lord in PRAYER every time we open His WORD! Remember, PRAYER is a powerful tool . . . ask Him to guide us in what He wants us to see and know from the WORD. The WORD is alive and real and valid for all that we are going through.

Our prayer is that you will seek ways through which you can grow deeper in His WORD, and closer to Him. If you haven’t opened the Bible lately – do it! If you don’t already attend a Bible-believing, Bible-honoring local church body – find one! If there is anything we can do to help in your growth and dedication to the WORD, please let us pray with you and open the Bible with you and help you sort through the madness around us.
