The location of SonShine Oaks Retreat is part of what once was the old Rockland Plantation on Wadmalaw Island many years ago. There also exists a small historic cemetery, Rockland Cemetery, near the back of the Retreat. The dream and desire of Pastor Miller when we arrived at SonShine Oaks was to build a small Prayer Chapel, to be named “HOPE”, next to this cemetery.
The Chapel is being built in honor and loving memory of Pastor Don Miller, Co-Founder of SonShine Oaks Retreat.
The Prayer Chapel will serve as a quiet place for prayer, reflection, and remembrance of loved ones for our guests and the community. Sit and listen for the still small voice of our Lord!
“HOPE” will contain seven pews for seating and a kneeling bench for prayer, a small kitchenette and restroom. The chapel will seat one person (if you find yourself there alone – which actually would never happen since the Lord is always with us!) up to about 35. We will be placing our baby grand piano in the chapel once it is built.
It is designed to accommodate those with accessibility
needs as well.
Architectural design and plans were completed between October 2015 and November 2016. Plans were submitted to Charleston County in December of 2016 and the permit was issued for construction on March 16th, 2017.
Construction began in mid-May 2017 and has progressed to a structural shell with foundation, floor, walls, and a roof weatherized for protection.
Continue to pray with us and watch as the Lord provides for the completion. We desire the help and support of our SonShine community!
A fund is in place to accept donations
