Well, praise God! Yesterday marked a milestone here at SonShine Oaks Retreat! In several ways . . .
And the very God of peace sanctify you wholly; and I pray God your whole spirit and soul and body be preserved blameless unto the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ. Faithful is he that calleth you, who also will do it. – 1 Thessalonians 5:23-24
Milestone 1: Yesterday, February 26th, marked the exact one-year anniversary of our arrival here to the 13-acre secluded property now known as SonShine Oaks Retreat! Yes, it’s hard to believe an entire year has passed by, but we stand here to say that our God is FAITHFUL and He has done great things! We sat down and listed the many things He has done in and through us over the last 365 days and we are humbled and blessed by what He has brought about (and a bit exhausted, too – but God gives strength when needed to do His work!) There have been struggles to be sure; certainly the loss of Pastor Don has been a huge and gaping hole that only God’s ever present grace and reassurance has been able to fill. But as we look back and reflect, we know that God has been the one moving and providing and equipping us for the journey!
Milestone 2: We have worked hand in hand with Charleston County planning/zoning/building officials since even before our arrival a year ago and yesterday, after many intricate and complex steps to comply with county zoning and building requirements stretching out over the past year, we were blessed and excited to receive the official zoning approval and business license from Charleston County to begin operation of our Retreat ministry of Rest, Renewal, Refreshing, and encouragement and guidance in health and wellness to those who come!
Milestone 3: During the last year, through God’s constant supply of prayers, volunteer help, needed support and encouragement of so many, the 13 acre property God led us to has now been transformed into a special place where we can legally and officially accommodate guests – including those with disability needs, share meals, pray with folks, provide encouragement and educational resources that enable guests to leave better equipped in their lives and ministries. We will meet brothers and sisters in the Lord – many of whom we’ve not known before – and they’ll leave as new friends. We’ll learn a bit about them, they’ll learn a bit about us and perhaps we can each grow closer to being more of the people God has called us to be for His glory.
It has been an interesting and exciting journey thus far, and Lord willing, as we now step out in faith on the next turn in the continuing path, we will be used here to serve and bless many!
We covet your prayers and continue to trust God for all measures of support in every aspect of our ministry to come.
May you be blessed and filled with all of His goodness and grace
The folks at SonShine Oaks
